Everton

Nickname: The Toffees

Stadium: Goodison Park (Capacity 39,572)

Manager: Sean Dyche

Last Season: 17th

Everton come into this season on the back of a second successive relegation scrap and Manager Sean Dyche promised big changes to avoid a similar campaign this time around. But it’s been a summer of few arrivals at Goodison Park and it’s hard to envisage a dramatic change of fortunes for Dyche’s side this season.

Frozen out by previous manager Frank Lampard, Abdoulaye Doucoure thrived under Sean Dyche, scoring 5 goals in his final 10 matches of the season. His stunning second-half volley against Bournemouth on the final day of last season ensured Everton’s Premier League status and it’s no surprise the Toffees have decided to extend his contract by another year.

Star Signing: Arnaut Danjuma (LOAN €4.2m)

The Villarreal striker snubbed Everton at the start of the year and joined Tottenham in dramatic fashion. But Danjuma’s impact at Spurs was minimal and the 26-year-old will be hoping it’s a case of second time lucky as he joins the Toffees on a season-long loan. Scoring goals was a huge problem for Everton last season, but Danjuma has proven attacking versatility which will be needed to keep Sean Dyche’s side out of a relegation battle this season.

First Match: Fulham (H) August 12

Fulham ended a five-match losing streak in style when they beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park towards the end of last season.

Predicted Finish: 15th

In recent years, Everton have grown accustomed to battling for survival and Manager Sean Dyche is of a similar mould. Before departing in April 2022, Dyche had kept Burnley in the Premier League for six seasons running and his direct, defensive football is a good fit for an Everton squad clearly lacking in quality and depth.

Will Dyche’s defensive setup prove the difference, or will Everton’s 70-year stay in the Premier League finally end?
